スマホを忘れる幸福——職人とラジコンに教わった“夢中力”

名古屋へコトコト──“全国トップクラス” と噂の シートレール削り職人を訪ねた。何をする人かって？「車の着座位置を下げるためだけにシートレールを1mm単位で削る」専門職だ20年以上その道一筋だという。渋すぎて笑うしかない。

帰り道、KYOSHO CUP＠静岡県（ラジコンカー全国大会）へ寄り道。ピットではオジサン達がインカムを付け、唾を飛ばしながらキャブ調整。手に汗握る──けど走るのは 30 cm のマシンだ。

【真剣なおじさんを見て気づいたこと】
グラインダーの火花、ニトロの甲高いノート、漂うオイルの匂い。 誰ひとりスマホを触っていない。

「火花が当たるから」でも「音で何も聞こえないから」でもない。目の前の“リアル”に完全没入しているからだ。──その光景にハッとした。私には起きている間、自分の横にスマホがない時間なんてあったっけな？

I rattled my way to Nagoya to meet a legendary seat‑rail shaving craftsman.
His job? “Lower a car’s seating position by grinding the seat rail in 1‑millimeter increments.”
Too niche, too cool—I couldn’t help but laugh in admiration.

On the way back I detoured to the KYOSHO CUP in Shizuoka, Japan’s premier radio‑control car championship.
In the pit, middle‑aged men barked into intercoms, spit flying as they tuned carburetors. Palms sweating—yet the “race cars” are only 30 centimeters long.

What I Realized While Watching These Serious Men
Sparks from grinders, the high‑pitched whine of nitro engines, the smell of oil in the air—
not a single person was touching a smartphone.

It wasn’t because of flying sparks or deafening noise.
They were simply all‑in on the reality right in front of them.
That sight jolted me—when was the last time I spent even an hour awake with no phone at my side?

Maybe This Is What Wealth Really Looks Like
People who can forget where their phone is are truly wealthy.
The smiles they share after finishing a job—those warm, sweaty grins—you can’t feel that temperature online.

Seat‑rails and RC cars are ultra‑niche hobbies, precisely why they create such pure immersion.
Tonight I’m going to switch my notifications off for just 30 minutes and see what happens.
